AsianInNY Brought Over 500 People to Celebrate Lunar New Year

AsianInNY hosted the 8th Annual Fashion Show and 2013 Lunar New Year Celebration on the night of February 23, 2013. The celebration was filled with spectacular performances which included music, singing, dancing, laughter, smiles and fashion show. It was a rainy day, pouring nearly all day long, but that didn’t stop the event or people from attending. The event brought in over 500 people to New York Law School event hall located at 185 W Broadway.

Staff members and volunteers started preparation at 1:00pm, getting everything set and placed in the right location. Everyone was busy helping, getting things done and preparing before 6:00pm, where people would begin coming upstairs and into the hall.

As doors opened at 6:00pm and people did not hesitate to walk towards the tables filled with food, drinks, snacks, informational handouts, and a silent auction. Everyone was mingling and taking photos on the red carpet and out. While in the background listening to music played by DJ Taiga.

New York City Comptroller John C. Liu presented AsianInNY a commendation in bringing together neighbors, friends, and families in celebrating Lunar New Year, the year of the snake. And Ron Kim a member of Assembly presented AsianInNY a citation of substantial impact on the quality of life in the Asian communities.

Also New York State Senator Eric Adams, co-host Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA Metro New York Chapter) and other special guests including Vincent Tummino (President of the International Columbia Association) and Dr. Geoffrey Scott Carroll (Founder and Chairman of From Scotland With Love) all took their time to attend the event and gave a few words of their own.

What would a night be without a Lion Dance? The United East Athletics Association kicked off the performance with two lions roaring the crowd with excitement and upstanding beats.

To keep the excitement going MC Phil Nee who is considered the Godfather of Asian American comedians, kept the crowd engaged and laughing.

To get things pumping KI-YO, who was awarded the All Japan Request Award and the JFN Listener’s Award, performed a few of his song with his lovely dancers.

To keep the performance going Shoko Tamai performed an elegant and beautiful ballet and sword dance.

Takala Land put some springs in people’s step with a high beat dance performance.

The night ended with a fashion show filled with beautiful and stunning Asian models, who worked the runway with incredible confidence and attitude. The audience watched as their eye dazzled and their hands clapping for more. The models were had their hair and glamorous make-up done by MessLook.  Asian American Designers Way Zen, Janet Zheng, Ninh Nguyen, Angela Gao and Gilbert Chen show cased their captivating designer clothing line for the fashion show. As well as jewelry and accessories show cased by Kallisti, a Sat Chit and Evélyn Claude.

Delicous food were provided by Mika Japanese Cusine & Bar and Red Egg, both resturants located in lower Manhattan, Chinatown. Thirst clenching drinks were provided by Arizona Ice Teas, Ty Ku, KOH Coconut Water and Bruce Cost Ginger Ale. Yummy snacked were provided by Well Luck Co. and cookies were provided by Ivy Bakery.

Guests also got a chance to check out Taiwan tours, where they can obtain information, hot tourist spots and beautiful giveaways from Taiwan Tourism Bureau.

Lastly, there was also a silent auction, where items where donated by their co-sponsors Manhattan Portage, Kallsti, Sat Chit Jewelry, Onassis, Folli Follie, Evelyn Claude, Moda Revise, Me Char and TC Charton.

It was an amazing night with many spectacular performances, amazing models dazzling the audience and anyone who watched, and engaging table set-up where guests can make their purchases. What a successful night! We can’t wait for the next one!
