From Artist Nina Kuo
I made a series of photos with Private Danny Chen’s portraits just like the paper bag shown above and this paper portraits was brought to rallies, forums, cafes, malls, etc as he is still present as we will always reflect our hope through his courage and dignity.
In my collaged “shrine to Private Danny Chen”, I wanted to show how he is still part of our community-around the images of Chinatown and how his courage will always be symbolic to our community. (sculpture made of wood, metal, plastic toys, buddhas, photos etc.)
Let us all commemorate Private Danny Chen’s life. His presence is felt in my poetic way as I depicted his portrait on a shopping bag that anyone can carry around to show how proud our community is and to all Asian Americans. He is our youthful modern day Hero! We find in all parts of our city a true spiritual soldier!
About the artist: Nina Kuo creates paintings, large drawings and mural landscapes with mutli-symbolic themes and calligraphic shapes while presenting scholar rocks in a surreal manner for emotional appeal. These images provide metaphors for our global bourgeois society and its cultural ambiguity. She has executed many paintings, sculptures and video works related to a mythical destiny full of contradictions and surprise.
