On May 20, Wakin Chau World Tour in New York Press Conference was held at The Pierre, A Taj Hotel. Wakin’s concert will be live on this Sunday night (May 22, 8 pm), at David Geffen Hall-Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
As a predominant Hong-Kong born Taiwanese singer, Wakin has released more than 40 albums in Mandarin, Cantonese, and English. Over 30 years, Wakin has sung many classic and melodious songs like “Friends”, “The Flower Heart”, “You Make Me Happy And Sad” and more. His most recent album Jiang Hu in 2013 made him the Best Mandarin Male Singer of the 25th Golden Melody Awards in Taiwan.
Wakin’s tour is themed “What we going to sing today.” Wakin said the theme came from a slang during his discussion with his team, totally out of coincidence. He asked his friends “what ya eatin’ today?” then he decided to make that theme “what we going to sing today?” “Don’t use too many rhetoric words, just make the theme direct and easy. The biggest happiness in my life is that I like meeting my audiences who are like my old friends everywhere around the world. That kind of feeling can be explained as ‘what you wanna listen is what I’m gonna sing.’” Wakin said. The whole performance will lead audiences to go through songs back in the 80s, 90s, and the present time with great deal of interaction.
The Vice President of Fancy Maker Entertainment Inc., Ms. Jia, she gave Wakin a guitar as a gift at the end of the conference. Wakin also gave an acoustic performance with that guitar, playing “I Am Gonna Marry You Tomorrow”. May 20 (5.20) sounds similar to the pronunciation of “Wo Ai Ni” in Mandarin, which means “I love you.” “New York City is a fantastic metropolis.” Wakin Said. After the New York tour, Wakin will fly to his next destination: Vancouver. In the next few years, Wakin will keep a relaxed lifestyle and still make and share some new music.
