The iGavel Auctions sale of Asian, Ancient, and Ethnographic Works of Art presented by Lark Mason and Associates that closed on October 26, 2012, had 233 sold lots resulting in a total of over $3,500,000. Buyers were from many countries, with a large group of successful bidders from the People’s Republic of China.
“As iGavel approaches its’ tenth year, this Asian sale represents the strongest auction in the company’s history, and is a testament to a deep knowledge of the Asian art and antiquities market,” said its founder Lark Mason.
Six lots sold above $100,000 each, and received 197 bids. The top ten lots realized over $2.4 million, and received over 350 bids. The high-value lot from this auction was a Chinese Imperial Carved Zitan Armchair, 18th Century, which sold for $1 million and had 43 bids. Other highlights include: a Chinese Pale Celadon Jade Ruyi Scepter, 18th Century, which sold for $348,000; a Chinese Zitan, Hardstone, Gilt-Bronze, Silver, and Other Materials Miniature Mountain, 19th C., which sold for $258,000; a Large Chinese Pale Celadon Jade Vase with Cover, Republic Period, which sold for $180,000; a Chinese Bronze Ritual Vessel with Inscription to the Interior, 1100-1000 B.C., which sold for $156,000; and a Chinese Cloisonne Gu-Form Vase, 18th Century, which sold for $ 114,186.
