Press Conference: Chio-Tian Presents “Din Tao: Leader of the Parade”

By Keen Hung Lee

CHIO-TIAN FOLK DRUMS & ARTS TROUPE held a press conference and live performance at 11am on August 2nd, 2012 at the lobby of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York (TECO-NY), located at 1 East 42nd Street (between Madison and Fifth Avenue).

Susan Yu, Director of The Taipei Cultural Center of TECO in New York, Bill Bragin, the Director of Lincoln Center Out of Doors, Johnny Chiang, leader of CHIO-TIAN, and last but not least, Chen-Jung Hsu, artistic director of Choi-Tian, attended the press conference to invite the media to a preview of the Taiwan Cultural Show that will take place at the Lincoln Center Out of Doors, Hearst Plaza on August 3rd, 2012 at 7:30pm.

At the press conference, Johnny Chiang emphasizes that CHOI-TIAN is more than performances, but the troupe represents the preservation of Taiwanese culture. He hopes to share the culture of Taiwan with everyone as the audience enjoys these performances that also represent the dedication and hard-work of the performers. Director Chen-Jung Hsu speaks of how CHOI-TIAN has developed over the years; the troupe consists of young adults that range from the age of 16-25 years-old. He proudly admits that the performers are passionate about performing under CHOI-TIAN through proof of their tanned skin, from training long hours and days under the sun. Chen-Jung Hsu yearns to help these young performers find their talents and to bring them to the stage.

CHOI-TIAN was founded in 1995 by Director Hsu Chen-Jung. CHOI-TIAN started out as a religious performance group that performed for festivities in temples. However, for the past decade, CHOI-TIAN has strived to manifest the group into a performance-based entity in hopes to preserve Taiwanese religious traditions. The brief but astonishing Great Marshall of Hell, a mythical performance devout to the gods, performed at the press conference today captivated the audience and left them craving to see what the rest is in stored for them at tomorrow night’s show.

Don’t miss out on this free, once in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the magnificent Chio-Tian Troupe perform on August 3rd, 2012 7:30pm at the Lincoln Center! Chio-Tian will also be performing at NY summer Street on Aug 4th at 10:00am at the Foley Square Rest Stop (at Duane and Worth Streets) downtown NY. For more information, please visit:
