On October 18th at 8pm, AsianInNY sponsored the CMJ Taiwan Showcase with a highlight of this year’s music festival: “Taiwan Music,” hosted by a-Peer Music and the Taiwan Ministry of Culture Bureau of Audio visual and Music Industry Development (BAMID), and supported by MusicDish*China. This year’s CMJ Taiwan Music Festival featured three bands, 831, Chemical Monkeys, and the Da Mouth.

AsianInNY’s team was there to welcome all the guests as soon as they entered the door and just as the team worked together to get ready for the night, the line outside got longer and it eventually wrapped around the block at just only 6:30pm. The event started at 8 o’clock, but we were almost forced to let the line roll in earlier before the line extends even further and causes traffic on the sidewalk! It was a full house at CMJ. Soon after the line entered, another line had formed and they had to wait to enter because it was packed from wall to wall! It was an unbelievably successful event.

As people filed in, our team had set up a table filled with free giveaways including glow sticks, glow wands, glow necklace, movie posters, bands stickers, hand-held fans, and a chance to win a free t-shirt and movie tickets of WHEN A WOLF FALLS IN LOVE WITH A SHEEP when they sign up with AsianInNY!

Right before the show began, the CMJ Taiwan Showcase held a press conference to welcome the bands to kick off the CMJ Music Marathon & Film Festival, an annual festival in New York City. The press conducted a brief interview with the three bands including 831, a Taiwanese alternative rock band, best known as the future successor of the top Mandarin Rock band, Mayday; Chemical Monkey Band, a Taiwanese pop rock band whose members have all succeed in Taiwan’s pop music scene as songwriters, producers, and/or recording engineers; Da Mouth, a two-time Golden Melody Award-winning Taiwanese hip-hop group with widespread popularity in Asia.

The press had asked one of the groups, Da Mouth, how it feels to be compared to the Black Eyed Peas, and one of the members, Harry, responded with a humble and genuine response. Harry had stated that it is their pleasure and honor to be compared to the Black Eyed Peas but he had also announced it is Da Mouth’s uniqueness of diverse talent and background that distinguishes them from the Black Eyed Peas. This shows that Da Mouth is comparable to great talent but they also stand out among other bands out there.

Once the interview ended, the CMJ Taiwan Showcase begins as fans hurriedly enter, not surpassing the table without picking up some goodies by AsianInNY. As the bands jammed on, people only got even more excited for the groups’ continuing performance. All three groups did a fantastic job and kept the energy of the audience alive throughout the night.

AsianInNY staff also had private interviews with all three bands and took photos with them in the end of the night. It was a great night to experience these three amazing bands and see them perform live.
