Queens Taste 2014 was held at the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel in Flushing on Tuesday April 29. The Queens Economic Development Corporation and lead sponsor Fairway Market supported Queens Taste 2014, the borough’s premiere networking and culinary event.
At least 50 restaurants and other food purveyors, provided delectable food to about 1,000 attendees, which included some of the most powerful and best-connected Queens residents. The cuisine featured everything from sweet to savory, Asian to Italian, and crunchy to creamy.
This year’s theme was the World’s Fair, and it featured a WF memorabilia table. Photos from both local World Fairs flashed on TVs around the venue. Plus, a World’s Fair expert and the women who sold Belgian Waffles in 1964 attended. Proceeds will be used to support the Queens Economic Development Corporation (QEDC).
There was also a taste competition as judged by a team of local foodies and media types. Zenon Taverna, which serves Greek and Cypriot food in Astoria, took Best Entrée honors with a Mediterranean octopus dish, lamb meatballs and taramosalata. Sunnyside’s Murphy’s Seafood Grill, which gave out oysters on a half shell, won Best Appetizer while DF Mavens, which makes a wide variety of dairy-free ice cream flavors, prevailed as Best Dessert.
