The Korean Food Fair 2013 kicks off in Times Square on October 19 with over 28 food vendors and multiple performances including the New York Korean Traditional Marching Band, a jazz performance by Yanghyung Soul Factory, and a K-Pop dance performance by I Love Dance led by AsianInNY’s friend the amazing choreographer MJ Choi.
Prior to the main food fair, an invite-only event was hosted on Friday 18 by Kim Jae Soo, President and CEO of Korean Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation at the Plaza Hotel.
The Korean luncheon event had a few special speakers including New York City Comptroller John Liu and New York State Assemblyman Ron Kim.
This event also had a panel discussion with Korean chef Shin Kim and Phillip Lee of the popular New York-based food truck, Kimchi Taco Truck with journalist of National Restaurant News Bret Thorn. They discussed Korean foods and their rise in popularity such as Korean pizza now is offered at California Pizza Kitchen. They also talked about the Korean influence in modern day cuisine such as Soju, Korean bar food and Gochujang.
The free-of-charge food fair is organized directly by the Korean government’s Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation, and will be focused on the growing popularity of Korean food and Korean ingredients such as ginseng tea, kimchi, soju, aloe vera, roasted & seasoned seaweed, honey jujube, rice wine, and rice cakes, will be given out for sampling.
