Have you ever tried Korean Tapas? If not, here’s your chance. Charles “Tiger” Chong (CEO of Hotel Verité) has jumped into the culinary war in the Flat Iron district with a Grand Opening celebration on March 14th. Barn Joo is the massive scale creation making up 8,100 square feet space and is located at the base of the Hotel Verité (893 Broadway, New York, NY 10003). The space includes two individual full bars, a private mezzanine, downstairs lounge and a fully equipped music stage. You can tune in throughout the year for some live performances.
Barn Joo (meaning an alcoholic or musical accompaniment in Korean) is a Korean-inspired bar/restaurant with a slogan of “Eat, Drink, Play.” The place aims to be a a gastropub filled with earthy charm, farm to table small plates and will make you feel right at home. It’s a place to have a casual dinner, relax with some drinks and to grab a quick bite at the bar.
The talented Executive Chef, Steve Song, accompanies the large-scale venue. He gained his culinary education from ICE and worked at Jean-Geroge, KIKU Restaurant (Best Head Chef in 2005) and MONO+MONO (Selected as 1 of 7 Best Fried Chicken in the World by Food Network in 2011.)
Featured below are some of the dishes served at Barn Joo:
BJ Fries – Not your run-of-the-mill home fries! They are hand cut, breaded with sea salt & pepper, garlic and spices.
Kimchi Pancake – Served up like a personal sized pizza, it’s loaded with kimchi cabbage, veggies and spices.
Miso Glazed Pork Belly – Succulent slices of pork belly served with three different types of sea salts.
Mozzarella Cheese Sticks – A grown-up’s version of a childhood favorite, the cheese sticks are covered with fresh thyme, basil, egg, bread crumbs served with a sweet chili sauce.
Salmon with Yuzu – Lightly seared salmon with a homemade Yuzu glaze served with shredded radish.
Barn Joo is a great place for an after work happy hour, weekend drinks, music entertainment and socializing. It stays true to it’s motto: “Eat, Drink, Play”! To visit: www.barnjoo.com
