NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts featured the National Theatre of China‘s RICHARD III from March 26 to March 30.
The National Theatre of China is a performing arts organization, which was established in 2001. The organization brings together artists who have dominated Chinese national-level awards in the field of drama.
This March, the National Theatre of China (NTC) presented RICHARD III. It is directed by Wang Xiaoying with leading artists, Zhang Dongyu, Wu Xiaodong, Chen Qiang, and She Nannan. Wang Xiaoying is also the Vice President of NTC and China Theatre Association National-level Director.
RICHARD III took place in England. Edward IV became the King of England, because of the victory of the war. The throne brought jealousy, ambition, and hatred from others who would do anything to achieve their self-satisfaction. The story involved these familiar struggles in humanity.
Along with the serious themes, the act also had some humorous scenes. It is interesting that the synopsis is a Western story, but it is interpreted by all Chinese actors, and actresses. It also incorporated an Asian stage design and instruments.
If you happened to miss this show, there are more world-famous Chinese artists in theater, dance, music, film and more that will be featured at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts.
