Movie Review: AND WHILE WE WERE HERE

By Winston Hsu

And While We Were Here, directed by Kat Coiro, portraits a short romantic story of a married woman who has an affair while working on a writing project on the island of Ischia. This trip has changed her life and led her to a different direction of life.

Jane (Kate Bosworth) finds her marriage with the violist Leonard (Iddo Goldberg) brooding and boring. The couple travel to Naples hoping to start fresh and escape a personal tragedy that hangs heavily between them. When Jane faces writer’s block, she ferries to Ischia and bumps into 19-year old Caleb (Jamie Blackley) on the street. Several encounters later, they fall into an unlikely emotional affair, and Jane finds her life even more complicated. On her last day in Naples, Jane must make a decision, who will she choose – her husband or her lover?

A precise and meaningful story that tours the stunning locations of Italy, tempting viewers to immediate book vacation tickets to Italy. This trip changed Jane’s life and now has an important decision to make. Will she choose her husband or her lover? She takes in consideration her husband’s feelings and her lover’s desires. But that is not how she should go about the situation. Don’t let others’ opinions influence you. Do what you believe is best and be the master of your life.
