The 4th New York Chinese Film Festival kicked off at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall on November 5th with star-studded red carpet. Chinese actors including Donnie Yen & wife Cissy Wang, Vicky Zhao Wei, Xiubo Wu, Miriam Yeung & husband Real Ting, Vivian Dawson, and Jade Lin were greeted screaming fans while walking the red carpet before the opening ceremony.
The New York Chinese Film Festival was founded in 2010 to promote cultural exchanges between China and US and to improve the development of the Chinese film industry. The NYCFF is a non-profit organization whose aim is to promote Chinese art and culture through film, while gaining exposure and insight from an American audience. And this year, China Central Television Movie Channel and the Chinese American Arts Council present the 4th New York Chinese Film Festival, which features 7 films, from Nov 5th to 7th including So Young, Sorry, I Love You, Finding Mr. Right, Love Undercover, Love in the Buff, Ip Man, and Special ID.
Jia Qi, Deputy Director of CCTV Movie Channel, and Sid Ganis, director of the American Association of Independent Film, are co-chairing the festival. and the festival is produced by Qi Jia, Alan Chow, Kaijie Wang and Kate Lin, and is presented by the highly successful Chinese American Arts Council (CAAC) and the Chinese Movie Channel, CCTV-6.
Acclaimed as Chinese actress Vicky Zhao Wei’s directorial debut, “So Young” was selected as the opening film for this year’s festival. The film has become a major success at the Chinese box office, grossing over US$115 million. Based on the best-selling novel To Our Youth that is Fading Away by Xin Yiwu, the story is layered upon itself, cutting from character to character and leaving the impression that college is an eclectic melting pot of considerable heartache and twisting drama that paints a grueling picture of what life has to offer beyond the campus. Vicky also stayed after the screening for Q&A and fans were all grasping the rare opportunity to ask her all the questions regarding the film, her current and future projects.
The three-day event will present a number of awards to outstanding Chinese filmmakers and actors and we can’t wait to review all the films and share with you all.
