Zuzu Kim Fall/Winter 2012 Collection

Christina “Zuzu” Kim presented her collection under the label Zuzu Kim at the Bennett Media Studio during New York Fashion Week. Guests mingled and stared in awe at the collection while sipping SVEDKA cherry martinis. Inspired by classical music composition, Kim’s second ready-to-wear collection – “Romanza” – reflects her background as a concert pianist with several new, strikingly original tuxedo blouses and conductor jackets, which combine stark lines with feminine flourishes of scallops and lace. Employing premium cashmere, chiffon, and lamb’s leather across a vibrant palette of navy, gold, and burgundy, Kim once again finds harmony in an array of seemingly disparate elements.

The daughter of the former South Korean Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Christina “Zuzu” Kim was raised around the world. ZUZU studied fashion design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. An entrepreneur at heart, ZUZU started her own high-end women’s atelier in Chicago before being recruited by Phoebe Couture and Mary McFadden in New York. She was appointed head designer within one year.

A musician by nature, ZUZU is a self-taught classical pianist and studies piano performance at the Juilliard School. Kim started by making her own striking and romantic clothing for her performances. This evolved to her creating a ready-to-wear brand that embraces fashion and music, and a result of brainstorming, observing, and researching for over a year mostly in solitude. Her background, sensitivity towards different cultures as well as her passion for music brings a unique perspective to her design sensibility. It represents a lifestyle sophisticated yet fresh and universally appealing, the same way music communicates without boundaries.

ZUZU KIM, being her first women’s ready-to-wear collection debuted on September 14th, 2011 during New York Fashion Week in the Lotus Room at the Mandarin Oriental. Aptly themed “Concerto”, the collection reinterprets a musician’s stage attire. The collection shares an ‘elegantly chic, trendy’ theme as described by Lucire.  On February 16th 2012, ZUZU presented her first fall/winter collection at the Bennett Media Studio. The event was co-sponsored by WOLFORD, VH1 SAVE THE MUSIC FOUNDATION, and ED BENNETT, former CEO of VH1, AND SVEDKA.  For more info: www.zuzukim.com
