Zang Toi’s Spring 2014 Collection was inspired by ballet. Working alongside his longtime friend and American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Cory Stearns, Toi wanted to include the attributes of ballet in the form of a fashion collection that embodies both elegance and grace.
With the incorporation of black, dark and light blues, and an occasional neutral pink like traditional ballet attire, Toi’s aspiration was to avoid the cliché of past ballet-inspired collections that included tutus, corsets, and Swan Lake. And so he did.
His Spring 2014 Collection, titled Ballet Babe, kicked off with a ballet performance by Cory Stearns. The rest of the show featured an entire line-up of striking evening gowns, dresses, sweaters, and jackets, all exemplifying mystical, dark and finesse styles. Toi’s translation of ballet on the dance floor to the floor of the runway was done with perfection.
