Vietnamese Designer Vo Viet Chung made his first appearance in New York at Couture Fashion Week premiering his inspired Vietnamese Ao Dai couture line. His collection which is named “Hue khoi xu Nam Ky” (Beauties of Cochin China) was inspired by using Lanh My A; a silk fabric that was forgotten in the past and was rediscovered by him in 2002.
Vo Viet Chung is also known for previously showcasing his designs around the world like Japan and London. He was also recently appointed by the Vietnam Environment Protection Fund as director of the “Blue Ocean World” project. He is also the founder of Vietnam’s Miss Ocean Beauty contest.
Each garment is crafted to perfection with keen attention to details. He also envisions creating unique and exclusive one-of-a-kind pieces with the highest quality materials and a refined finish.
In fact his collection consisted mostly of Lanh My A fabric that is actually dyed with a made-in-Vietnam material called mac nua; which comes from the barks and roots of trees. However in various selected garments, he also added a touch of bright and vibrant colors and patterns for the inside. He also accessorized his dresses with beautiful white pearls.
His style of being glamorous, elegant and sophisticated reflected in his creations with certain pieces being classy and fitted. Yet he also featured creations that were intricate with a flare. Overall he showcased a soft and high end look that reflects an amalgam of classic and traditional Vietnamese design and its dynamic and vibrant modern culture.
When asked; he felt proud and excited to be at Couture Fashion Week especially being in New York for the first time. He hopes as an Asian designer that he can continue to make his mark in the fashion industry by creating something new and unique with a Vietnamese feel. He also hopes to continue his fashion line and spread Vietnamese fashion around the world bringing Vietnam’s fashion, culture, and fabrics to the fashion world’s stage.
