Ruffian Fall 2014

By Ka Yee Chan

Starting with a bell, “ding-dong,” the runway brightens as the models walk through. This is Ruffian’s Fall 2014 Collection, featured on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 9AM. The chilly weather did not prevent  people from coming to visit the Lincoln center.

Ruffian’s fall 2014 collection gives a sense of Goth. Many of the pieces have high-neck pleated collars. There is a very dramatic piece: a black dress that has a clown-pleated collar and two white open pleats that flared out on the princess seams. Some of the looks are also styled with dramatic high bowler hats and shiny –metallic bowler hats.

The color palettes are mainly black, white, beige, golden green, cloud-gray blue, and pops of bright red, and metallic gold and silver. Many of the looks are styled in very contrast colors such as a cloud-gray blue dress styled with red stockings, and a black top with a beige skirt styled with red stockings. Red is used thoroughly in the collections, not only in the style of stockings, but also on the trims. Red trims are used loudly on lightly colored pieces. The red trims add a stiffer, edgier look to the soft silky material.

Another “ding-dong” marks the end of the show. It is a very dramatic show with the fearless styling of colors.
