Malan Breton presented his Spring Summer 2017 collection on July 13th in the Meatpacking district and the designer divided his showcase into two separate parts, a concept reflective in the name of the collection: “Severance” and “The Butterfly Effect”. The collections were presented with over 30 models on opposite sides of the room and right in the center is the top androgynous model Rain Dove.
This mark’s the designer’s fourth menswear collection and Malan Breton’s main collection is inspired by the 1969 Academy Award winning film, “Alice’s Restaurant”.
Malan Breton’s Taiwanese roots were made evident throughout his collection with those beautiful silk organza and golden silk weave sportswear and suitwear. Also, Malan constructed with many looks that showcased Taiwanese reconstructed denim along with indigenous prints of the tribes of Taiwan, and many looks are inspired by his trip
to Orchid Island also known as Lanyu in Taiwan.
Malan Breton® is the recipient of the 2016 FGI “Rising Star” award in Menswear, the 2015 European Fashion Council’s “Eirene” award, the 2015, and 2016 Taiwan Tourism Award for contributions in fashion, and media. In 2011 Malan Breton® and NBC Universal were a nominee for the 2011 WGSN Global Fashion Award for Outstanding collaboration.
