LORIS DIRAN presented his women’s and men’s Collections for Spring/Summer 2014 on Thursday, September 12th 2013 at the Dimenna Center for Classical Music in New York City for this September’s New York Fashion Week.
Mr. Diran has presented his collections during New York Fashion Week for 9 previous seasons, and this runway presentation marked Mr. Diran’s return to the New York Fashion Week schedule after a 2-year absence during which his collections were shown exclusively in Italy and Asia.
The Spring/Summer 2014 collection, entitled “SAMARKAND”, draws its inspiration from Diran’s time spent in Central Asia’s Uzbekistan. From the deep, warm spice tones of the Souks to the opulence and ancient grandeur of its mosques, Diran’s fascination resulted in the birth of a tale of a western visitor’s sensorial epiphany told in Ikat inspired prints and rich cotton Brocades, linen Sateens, and silks.
Texture and structure were key elements for the women’s collection, with strong shoulder lines co-existing with chiffons and asymmetric tailoring paired with cotton silk brocades. While the men’s collection took a softer turn with easy summer jackets and trousers cut from unlikely luxury textiles. The color palette included neutrals such as desert, saffron, flour, and onyx, as well as startling hues such as sapphire and paprika.
This season also herald Diran’s first collaboration with Uzbek fine jewelry and accessory collection,” GULI”. The luxurious Uzbek inspired collection has earned great acclaim and reflects a unique opulence that finds its roots in organic themes and spirituality.
