On February 11th, there was an exhibition called Leather Japan that took place at Thomas Erben Gallery (an international New York contemporary art gallery). In this gallery, there were awesome arts, fashions and craft works from the Edo Period to the modern day.
With excellent results from last year’s New York Fashion Week, “genten” and other brands that utilize Japanese leather products, team up as the Japan Leather Goods Development Committee held LEATHER JAPAN again.
In addition, nine designers and ten artists came from Japan to show their creative original pieces with the theme “Japanese Leather.” These selected works were to “convey to the world the deep allure of Japanese leather goods that are recognized for their high craftsmanship and top caliber artisan techniques and sensibility.”
Artists are shown including: Glen Fogel, Chitra Ganesh, Saya Kubota, Akiyoshi Mishima, Shin Murayama, Carlos Rigau, Hajime Sorayama, Kosuke Tsumura, Hiroki Tsukuda, and Shuhei Yamada.
This exhibition is meant to show the cumulative historic flow of the tradition of leather use. We highly recommend stopping in before the show closes on February 22nd. For more information: leatherjapan.jp
