Mongolian fashion brand Katya Zol, designed by G.Zoltsetseg, brought her motherland into the Theatre of Lincoln Center. The show began with a Mongolian singer wearing a beautiful ethnic costume and singing a cultural song. The singer allowed the audience to envision Mongolia with their ears.
Ethnic music continued, and served as the background music of the runway. The models walked down the runway with long braided hair, and a long stripe of golden shimmer vertically across their face. The styling of hair, make-up, and ethnical accessories attracted the audience to look into the cultural essence, which was presented in the collection.
Characteristics of Mongolian traditional costumes and nomadic styles are present within the collection. The collection is full of earth tones with pops of yellow and mustard colors.
It started with a soft silhouette and materials. There are ankle-length knitted dresses with very sexy yet elegant openings. The knitted dresses are embellished with stones and jewelry.
Jewelry embellishments were hanging and swinging from the garments as the models walked. As the show ended, the garment became more structured and armor-like. The collection also involves the use of leather with ethnical patterns, and rope-like embellishments to create structured looks.
Zoltsetseg kept the cultural and ethnical essence, but still offered modern styles in her collection.
“Through my fashion collections, which come from my heart and soul, I hope to bring joy to people. I’d love to expose and share with the rest of the world my imagination, passion for my culture, and its artistry, perseverance, determination and aspiration for quality and refinement,” Zoltsetseg said.
