Jason Wu, the person who designed Michelle Obama’s white dress for the Inauguration Ball back in 2009, recently showed his Spring 2013 Collection during New York Fashion Week on Friday. This new style is said to be reminiscent of “Fifty Shades of Grey”. Wu stated that he was inspired by photographers Helmut Newton and Lillian Bassman whom have two different styles. Newton’s style of photography has an erotic flair to it while Bassman’s photos are more “dream-like” romanticism. The designer also played around with the contrast between sensuality and innocence, and the end result was his current collection which seems to border more on a pseudo-dominatrix/”Fifty Shades of Grey” look. As nice as it looks, there’s also a bit of a naughty side to his newest line. Wu wanted a balance between sexiness and sophistication.
Lace and leather were predominantly used throughout the whole collection. Wu also used some parts of lingerie and turned them into outerwear. There were lots of harnesses too. It might be too risque for some people’s tastes, but it’s definitely an attention grabber.
