Gant Presents SS13 Collections

By Jessie Peng

Entering in Gant’s showroom based in Knightsbridge, one of London’s most prestigious areas, we felt like we had just travelled in a spaceship which drove us to a holiday paradise where there are sunbeds stemmed in the and a live DJ played in front of a wall of Madras palette. With this clue in sight, we definitely have indulged ourselves and are ready to give you a tour.

In order to shade off the hazy winter climate and lift up the vehement features for spring, Gant has poured in a lot of colours for 2013 Spring Summer’s collection by gathering every little pinch of tranquility from different destinations. Gant travels the world brewing classic American sportswear with dynamic colours of Brazilian coastal cultures, exotic Madras prints from India and the voyage savor of eastern Long Island.

Lavishing about the Madras prints, Gant draws the inspiration with varied assemblages which are not only exerted in trimming details but that can also be seen in day-to-day casual apparels such as patchwork shorts, Oxford shirts, and blazers. In addition to the textile patterns, the component has also been transformed from saturated colour hues to pastel exploitation in correspondence with different occasional attires. To give Madras items a genteel fix, pair the checked prints with a nautical crew neck cable knit and a college blazer; it gives you a punch of crisp uptown aura. While if you tend to invest on something that can be dressed up and down, this combo printed vest top and shorts which I adore can definitely shift a casual look to a flirty silhouette by simply replacing your daytimes loafers with a pair of glittering pumps and statement necklace.

The sixth capsule collaboration created by Christian Bastian who got his inspirations from the natural lives and history inhabitants on the Galapagos Islands, the docile crucible of adaption and evolution, off the coast of Ecuador. He expounded his design concepts with an adventurous spirit and for the creatures he had seen, he transformed the figures’ impressions into technical prints. With this in mind, he majorly adopted earthy colours such as olive green and khaki as the backdrop and ethnical graphic prints as the accent elements. Such as the shades of a Boobie bird whose blue webbed feet symbolize the muscular empowerment of a male bird during the mating season, have also been adopted in the men’s collection with turquoise colour highlighted in the designs. While in the women’s collection, I definitely love the energy of that greenly leafy jacket and the lace-up khaki dress which are seem easy to wear and last as timeless classics.

When Christian Bastian firstly made his Spring Summer 2013 collection presentation in the New York Fashion Week, he confided “I love the look of backpackers who have traveled all over the world and wear the eclectic things they pick up along the way,” said Bastian. “The collection has that outward bound feel, but there’s a strong sense of South America too.”
