The month of May is a time of graduation and celebration for many college students. On May 4, a fashion show composed of FIT’s graduated fashion design students was held at The Delancey.

Every year, there is only a small fraction of students who are chosen to showcase their work at the end of semester industry fashion shows. Fortunately, four friends, Nell Alexandra Johnson, Talisa Almonte, Emily Jordana Roberts and Alexander Stein came together to organize a show, “ There are no restrictions: Spring Fashion Show,” dedicated to all FIT fashion design graduates.

Johnson and Almonte are also FIT fashion design students. Stein comes from a film background and Roberts is a theater student. Through this event, Johnson and Almonte gathered the designers and coordinated the model fittings. As a filmmaker, Stein is knowledgeable in organizing, setting deadlines and working on crews. Roberts had experiences with helping companies/producers to hold events such as comedy tours, renaissance festivals, indie/underground fashion events, NY Couture Week and queer performance art.

It was great to have these four organizers put together this fashion show that is very meaningful to many students as well as to their family and friends.

The show is composed of approximately 40 designers from sportswear specialization, knitwear specialization, intimate specialization and special occasion. Many models were volunteers as well as friends of the designers.

Other than the professionalism of the show, more importantly the “There are no restrictions: Spring Fashion Show” was a very meaningful and touching presentation. Everyone had a great time featuring the innovative designs from FIT fashion design graduates and celebrating with beer in their hands.
