The Fashion Diaspora gala, held on November 11 at the Yale Club of New York City, sought to explore long-standing relationship between fashion and culture from a global perspective. With the support of organizations such as the East Rock Institute, Smithsonian Institution Center, and Metropolitan Arts League, the lively evening was enjoyed by all.
Guests were treated to a series of fashion shows which featured traditional and contemporary designs. Traditional Senegalese and Korean fashion segments launched the event. Immediately following were the fashions of contemporary designers. Among the those featured were Vivienne Tam, Cody Sai, Loris Diran, Stephen Burrows, and Michael Houghton. Models glided down the runway in beautiful garments that were mesmerizing in their details and intricacy.
The Korean garments are a collection from Sungshin Women’s University of Korea and were flown in from Korea, and curated by Dr. Hesung Chun Koh, Chair and President Emerita of East Rock Institute.
The Senegalese garments were gathered from the Senegalese community in NYC with the assistance of the Consulate General of Senegal & curated by Dr. Diana Baird N’Diaye, Curator of the Smithsonian Institution.
The evening concluded with a lavish post-show reception and silent auction. For more information please visit http://www.fashiondiaspora.com
