Although seemingly a random title, it brings back childhood memories of a story or fairytale your parent once told before bedtime. However, now as an adult, you have the capability of exploring these memories with fresh perspective and approach.
Claudia Li, the designer of her eponymous label CLAUDIA LI, chose spring summer 2018 as the time to play with and explore the “surrealism of childlike dreams teetering between the real and unreal. The collection draws to memory the playfulness and whimsical nature of a child’s curiosity and her ability to boldly enter another world, despite the unknown lingering at the edges.”
Displayed as a presentation rather than a runway show, guests were welcomed into the Gallery, to find themselves immersed in a haze of fog, only to emerge on the other side, face to face with models, lined up on both the right and left sides of the room, wearing the newest CLAUDIA LI collection. It consisted of styles in green, pink and yellow floral with a few solid colored garments carefully structured and wrapped around the model’s bodies. Juxtaposing the vibrant yellows, pinks, and reds were the darker shades of deep blue and evergreen, adding a tinge of mystery to the collection.
The presentation well reflected the girly, childhood aesthetic chased by the designer, while also intertwining a few styles that tell the story of transition into an alternate world…wherever that may be.
Many of the models sported simple mule slip-ons, oversized raindrop buttons and stood with Kete bag in hand, a leather flower basket shape featuring an inner drawstring silk pouch, overflowing with flowers. The silhouette shapes were focused on “the organic,” fusing loose and structured styles.
