Warrior women are strong, proud and fearless. Ready for Battle. Ready for Love”, reads the program notes for Carmen Marc Valvo Fall 2014 Runway Show. That sounds like the motto for a modern day woman. Yet, this season’s collection was influenced by the opulence of the Ottoman Empire and the metal-work and mosaics that adorned armor. Hence, the color scheme was largely metallic, glittering with gunmetal, rose or burnished gold and splashed with shades of scarlet, oxblood, persimmon, and peacock.
The silhouettes were sleek, sultry, and long, with some long sleeved looks perfect for fall. The combination of metallic, leather, and fur created a nice textural balance and an urban, sophisticated look.
One of the dresses worn by model Georgie, the ink double face cocktail dress with steel chainmail insets was a nice spin off the usual halter dress. Another favorite was the black double face gown with lace illusion, the lace on the side of the gown created a seductive glimpse of leg when the model walked the runway.
All in all, Carmen Marc Valvo outdid himself with a standout yet wearable collection!
