“Resurgence focuses on the rise and fall of the city, on what it represented to America in its hay day – Motown, the auto industry and how inevitably it will come back around. I want to create awareness on Detroit’s unique culture, history and its current state. Through my work, I would like people to see the possibility of the city being of value once again.” –Ann Yee
The cement blocks used created an atmosphere that builds an image in your mind as you walk through Ann Yee’s presentation for her Spring/Summer 2014 collection. The architectural-like fashion is simply refreshing to see. The variety of colors and fabrics compliments the upcoming Spring and Summer season. If you look closely, there’s an ode to the fashion styles of the decades before and the future.
The collection is “inspired by the history of Urban Detroit; its current crumbling economic state, combined with an appreciation for the survivalist spirit of the city as it moves towards a transformation.” Ann Yee’s signature knitwear featured a blend of metallic and tweed. The picture collage print fabric on the pants, jacket, and shorts was a sight to see. The print was a compilation of family photographs featuring iconic buildings of Detroit such as the Hotel Eddystone, Eastern Market, Wurlitzer Building and Metropolitan Building. An inspiring collection to see is that of Ann Yee’s Resurgence!
