ANN YEE’s Autumn/Winter 2012 collection

With a modern view of humanity, and an appreciation for the textures, movement, and dimension of caves, ANN YEE’s Autumn/Winter 2012 collection basked in the topography and illusiveness of elements and minerals.

Stemming from a desire for unique clothing and inspiration garnered during trips to her parents’ native Hong Kong, Ann Yee’s distinctive wardrobe combinations set her apart at a young age. Ann Yee interned with American designer Jill Stuart and, in London, with acclaimed independent designer Ebru Ercon while receiving her B.S. in Fashion Design from Philadelphia University. Yee moved on to New York to design knitwear for prestigious labels such as Barney’s, LaROK, Elizabeth and James, Alice + Olivia, and played an integral part in the launch of contemporary knitwear label, DUFFY.

A designer known for her knitwear and 3-ply dresses, the latest collection paid homage to her impeccable use of shapes, paneling, and layers, coupled with dramatic draping, set with heavier knits that exuded a raw and earthy vibe.

Guests delighted in Yee’s custom “Cave Print”, which acts as the heart of the collection, found on a handful of this season’s pieces, while the color palette had a natural resilience, grounded with shades of slate, ink, concrete blue, and dusty purple. Glimmers of citrine, amethyst, frost, and rust entwined with sand-washed crepe de chines, silk chiffons, and Italian wools. The Autumn/Winter 2012 collection proves to be as unique and refined as the personalities who wear it.

Key looks include:

-The VERUCA double collared combination top (look 1) is comprised of a gauze body with wool boucle panels applied on top creating a contrast in textures. The silk charmeuse double collar in frost and rose tops off the style with an unexpected twist.

-The WATT trouser (look 1) in limestone is draped in a Japanese enzyme-washed tencel. The slouchy fit is flattering on a variety of bodies and the exaggerated length adds dimension.

-The KATHLEEN sweater vest (look 2) in steel is handknit and made of South American merino wool. This chunky piece is perfect for layering and the longer panel can actually be wrapped around the neck like a scarf.

-The SHIRLEY dress (look 2) in the custom “Cave Print” is made of silk crepe de chine with a chiffon overlay at the bottom. This drop-waist dress features side pockets and angular panels at the top creating a feminine vibe. An asymmetrical hemline finishes off the look.

-The JAMES 3-layer dress (look 3) in shades of rust, raisin, and slate incorporate draped panels of crepe de chine, and gauze. The back draped panels are customizable and can be tied to the dress or loose and held in the hand for a bolder look.
