Ann Yee had her show in conjunction with Gen Art’s Fresh Faces in Fashion on Sep 9th.
Ann Yee’s Spring/Summer 2012 is a study of movement and geometry combined with subtle graphic elements inspired by Wang Qingsong’s photograph Competition. Encompassed in the collection is effortless draping mixed with interesting cuts and soft silhouettes.
Ann developed a custom “geo” print and intriguing soft color palette with unexpected shots of canary and vermillion with shades of sherbet, mint and cool blues- a very different turn and evolution from Ann’s previous dark and moody collection. Ann also collaborated with Kristin Love, a local milner, to create unique jewelry and head pieces for the show inspired by the geometry and color pallet for the collection.
Stemming from a desire for unique clothing and inspiration garnered during trips to her parents’ native Hong Kong, Ann Yee’s distinctive wardrobe combinations set her apart at a young age. Originally from South Lyon, Michigan, Ann Yee interned with American designer Jill Stuart, and in London with acclaimed independent designer Ebru Ercon while receiving her B.S. in fashion design from Philadelphia University. Ann eventually fulfilled her longtime dream of moving to New York City, where she has designed for such labels as LaROK and Elizabeth & James, and most recently a private company whose clients include Barney’s, Alice+Olivia, & Scoop.
