All Comes From Nothing (ACFN) is a women’s wear created by Eva Yiwei Xu. ACFN S/S 16 is launched on September 12, 2015. This is her third season in New York City.
Eva always wanted to be a fashion designer since she was eight years old. She attended Tsinghua University for BA in Fashion Design. Then she studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago for an MFA. Last June, she started her own label, keeping in mind to create everyday wear for women in NYC with creative lifestyle and of different professions.
Each season, Eva would work with an artist. Last season, she worked with Rachel Mica Weiss as a form of installation presented in the Armory Arts Week 2015. For the S/S 16, Eva had a deeper collaboration with the artist. This season she worked with a graphic designer who is well known in designing for top labels. She designed 12 prints inspired by Eva. The prints are mostly hidden in the garments and used as linings. The prints are used thoroughly in the collection as surprises, which maintain the initial idea of creating everyday wear.
In the past, Eva’s collections focused on art itself but this season focuses on the woman herself. She explains, “ I imagined I am her. She lives on an Island far away. Very isolated. She wake up, she starts her day by walking her dog by the shore. Then she draws and paints for the day.”
