On April 9 2012, World No. 1 golfer Yani Tseng had the chance to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before New York Mets game at Taiwan Heritage Night. Tseng also had a fan face time shaking hands with and signing autographs for hundreds of fans including AsianInNY, many of whom were carrying Taiwan magic scroll signs sponsored by Taiwan Tourism.
Taiwan Heritage Night 2012 at the Mets is on April 9th and the festivities started on 6:30PM with performances presented by TAA-NY chorus, McDonald’s martial art dance crew, Jumping Princes (a giant-sized Taoist religious icon that dances to modern electronic music), and a flight attendant from China Airlines also sang a song to celebrate the heritage.
The highlight of Taiwan Heritage Night this year, the event invited the #1 female golfer, Taiwan’s very own Yani Tseng to take part in the stadium. She threw out the ceremonial first pitch between the New York Mets and Washington Nationals game on April 9, 2012.
Tseng also posed with many Asian communities and sponsors who received “Spirit Award” from the Mets to thank for their contribution to the Taiwanese communities including Passport to Taiwan Festival.
The Taiwan Tourism Bureau also was on hand to distribute gifts to the first 10,000 fans at the ballpark and the evening featured a series of events aimed at promoting Taiwan’s tourism. The Mets won, 4-3, pushing their early season record to 4-0 at the Opening Week.
