NY Asian Women Designers on the Move

On August 8, 2012 at Lladró Boutique, AsianInNY was invited to attend a great event hosted by AWIB (Asian Women In Business) for its summer champagne reception and fashion show featuring Asian women designers in New York City.

During the event, we met a few designers including Ryo Liu, Creative Director and Co-owner of Pinkyotto and Kim Phan, Founder, CEO and Head Designer of Yumi Kim.

Ryo Liu is the master mind of the edgy and elegant brand Pinkyotto

Ryo Liu was born in Taiwan. From the very beginning, Ryo had an intense passion for design, which she has studied since the age of fifteen. Upon turning sixteen, Ryo began her runway modeling career; it was then that she became immersed in the world of high-end, international fashion.  A dichotomous edit, Pinkyotto offers something for everyone, from ultra-feminine dresses to tops that go from work to night on the town.  The Pinkyotto brand is ultimately reflective of Ryo’s own personal aesthetic and style.

Kim Phan of YUMI KIM

The brand is inspired by Phan’s personal aesthetic, vintage accents and silhouettes, with a touch of funk and urban femininity.  A lover of flowers, Phan incorporates floral patterns and color schemes in many of her designs. In Fall of 2008, Phan opened her first flagship store in New York’s hip Lower East Side; followed by an Upper East Side location to cater to both styles of the Downtown and Uptown girl. Yumi Kim, an editor favorite, can be found on Hollywood’s hottest starlets and stylish girls worldwide.  The collection can be found in premium boutiques and department stores across the globe.

SHAMINA RAI (Feature Reporter and News Producer, PIX 11 News)
