New York Women in Film and Television Muse Award 2012

On Thursday, December 13th, 2012 from 11:30AM to 2:30PM, the NYWIFT’s (New York Women in Film and Television) Muse annual gala lunchen was held at the Grand Ballroom of the New York Hilton to celebrate the women who play a critical role in creating, leading and transforming film, television and digital media. AsianInNY was honored to participate in this event and to witness such talented and inspirational actors of the film and media industry.

Actresses Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: SVU) and Lucy Liu (Elementary), documentary filmmaker Lisa F. Jackson (HBO’s Sex Crimes Unit), and WE tv President and CEO Kim Martin are the honorees at the 32nd annual Muse Awards. Jessica Williams from The Daily Show was the emcee for the evening.

Actress Mariska Hargitay of Law and Order is famous for her work in front of the camera. She also founded the charity, Joyful Heart, a foundation whose mission is to “heal, educate and empower survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence and child abuse and to shed light into the darkness that surrounds these issues.”

Lucy Liu is currenting starring on Elementary for her TV and film career . She is also proactive in community service. Liu was appointed a UNICEF Ambassador in 2004, and has traveled to Peru, Russia, Pakistan, Egypt, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, and Lesotho.

Kim Martin, President of WE tv (http://www.wetv.com/), who is passionate about her network’s public affairs initiative WE Volunteer created programs to encourage and celebrate women’s strength, confidence and diversity. Her mission is to motivate women to volunteer and to become more involved in their communities by connecting them with local causes they are passionate about.

Debra Zimmerman is  the Executive Director of Women Make Movies (WMM), which is an industry-leading nonprofit media arts organization and distributor. For four decades, WMM has brought the attention of issues that women face through film to the world.

Lucy Liuand the other actors who attended the NYWIFT’s Muse Awards are extremely successful and intelligent individuals who have overcome challenges in the film industry. These women are prime examples of role models to females all around the world. It is anticipated that these women will continue to change and develop the film industry in a positive way.
