New Asia Chamber Music Society Concert with Ambassador Andrew Kao
On April 25th at Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York, New Asia Chamber Music Society Concert held a beautiful concert which drew a packed house on a Wednesday night. Propelled by a shared passion for classical chamber music and profound respect for the works written by the composers of our time, the New Asia Chamber Music Society was founded in 2010 by an idealistic group of young Asian-American virtuosi, graduated from America’s most prestigious music schools, including The Juilliard School and the Curtis Institute.

Violinist Tien-Hsin “Cindy” Wu (吳天心) enjoys a versatile career as a soloist and chamber musician throughout North America, Europe and Asia. Having appeared as a soloist with orchestras including the Russian State Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, Ms. Wu has also collaborated in concert with Gary Graffman, Gary Hoffman, Kim Kashkashian, Ida Kavafian, William Preucil, Thomas Quasthoff, and members of the Alban Berg, Guarneri, Orion, and Tokyo string quartets at prominent venues as the Kennedy Centery, Library of Congress and Alice Tully Hall. A dedicated educator, Ms. Wu will begin teaching violin this fall as an adjunct professor at the Thornton School of Music at the University of Southern California.
Taiwanese-American violinist Kevin Shue (許愷洋),hailed by Anthony Tommassini of the NewYorkTimes as“promising violinist with rich, full sound, truemusical sensitivity and considerable techniques.”He received his Bachelor of Arts in Violin Performance from Stony Brook University in 2006 as a scholarship student of Pamela Frank and Ani Kavafian, and his Master of Music in Violin Performance from Mannes College of Music in May of 2008 as a scholarship student of Hiroko Yajima. Additional studies with Linda Cerone, Charles Castleman, Ronald Copes, Eugene Drucker, Philip Setzer, Stephen Rose, Ellen Jewett, and Sheila Reinhold.
Wei-Yang Andy Lin(林維洋), recognized as one of the most promising young violists of today, born in Taiwan,is currently a Doctoral Candidate at the Stony Brook University. He holds his Bachelor and Master’s Degree from The Juilliard School. Mr. Lin has won the Taiwan National Viola Competition, the Idyllwild Concerto Competition, Juilliard Concerto Competition, Stony Brook University Concerto Competition, 2010 Plowman Competition and the 2010 Kauder String Quartet Competition. He has attended Bowdoin Summer Festival, Aspen Summer Music Festival,Music Academy of the West in Santa Barbara, Music@Menlo, and The Perlman Chamber Music Workshop.
Winner of the 2010 Queens Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition and executive director/cellist of the New Asia Chamber Music Society, Nan-Cheng Chen(陳南呈)was hailed by the Worcester Telegram and Gazette that stated in “the kind of performance one might hear live only once a decade,” Nan-Cheng has been a soloist with the Simon Bolivar Orchestra, Metro-West Symphony, Quincy Symphony and Symphony Pro Musica. Nan-Cheng received his Bachelor of Music Degree in 2010 from The Juilliard School and is currently at the same school pursuing his Master of Music degree, studying with Joel Krosnick. www.cellistncc.com.
Born in Changhua,Taiwan in 1991, Jung-Hsuan Ko (柯容軒)was winner of 2011 Queens Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition, where she will be performing with the orchestra in April, 2012.she was also first prize in the Hsing-Tien Kung National Competition in Taipei, Taiwan and was second prize winner in the Asian Youth Music Competition in Singapore and National Cello Competition in Taiwan.
Ms. Ko began her musical training on the cello at the age of eight and shortly thereafter won top prizes in national competitions in Taiwan, including the first prize of Baroque Competition of Cello, Stella Matutina Junior High School Concerto Competition, Taichung City Culture Cup Competition of Cello and Cello Competition of Taiwan, Taichung City.
Taiwanese-American pianist, Helen Huang (黃海倫), was first discovered by the New York Philharmonic and Maestro Kurt Masur upon winning the Young People’s Competition resulting in engagements with the prestigious New York Philharmonic and a recording contract with the Teldec record label. She has appeared with the Cleveland Orchestra, the National Symphony, the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, Montreal Symphony, Berlin Philharmonic, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France, the London Philharmonic, the Israel Philharmonic, the Israel Chamber Orchestra, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra.Helen Huang also teaches at the Juilliard Pre-College. She resides in New York City.
Wei-Chieh Lin (林煒傑)’s compositions range from solo instrumental music to orchestral works to vocal and choral pieces, as well as Jazz and folk arrangements. Mr. Lin has received an ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award and was a finalist for the Minnesota Orchestra Composer Institute. He has also won the 2009 and 2010 National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan “Call for Scores” competition in both the chamber music and the solo music divisions, as well as the National Taiwan Arts Education Composition Award and the Palmer Dixon Award from the Juilliard School.Mr. Lin has has completed his Bachelor of Music and Masters of Music with scholarship at The Juilliard School under the tutelage of Milton Babbitt and Robert Beaser, and he is now a C.V. Starr Doctoral Fellow in composition.
