Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York, Inc. (KCS) celebrated 42 years of serving the Queens community at Metropolitan Pavilion. First Lady of New York City Chirlane McCray was the special guest speaker of the evening. John H. Kim (M.D., Gastroenterologist) and Jo-Ann Yoo (Executive Director of the Asian American Federation) were honored during the event. The gala also invited Senior Dance Team to perform the traditional dance. CeFaan Kim, (Reporter of ABC7 Eyewitness News) and Agnes Chung, (Reporter/TV Host of Foodable WebTV Network) were the emcees for the gala.
Founded in 1973 and incorporated in July 1974 as the first community-based social service agency targeting the Korean population, The Korean Community Services of Metropolitan New York, Inc. (KCS) is a voluntary, nonprofit 501(c)(3) community service agency with the objective to develop and deliver a broad range of community service programs to meet the various needs of the community. In order to achieve these objectives, KCS provides various professional community service programs in the areas of Aging, Community, Workforce Development, and Public Health.
KCS serves over 1,100 individuals daily with the help of 10 board members, 28 full-time staff, 25 part-time staff, and about 100 volunteers who are all working to make our community better in locations around the greater New York area. There are five site locations in the New York City area including three in Queens, an office in Manhattan, and a satellite office in Brooklyn.
The staff of KCS and all the volunteers were super amazing as soon we stepped into the venue , they provided immediate service of checking in guests to the gala. The 42nd Annual Gala started with cocktail and silent auction. The entire room was artistically decorated with beautiful donation items to provide guests chances to bid on including some fashionable jackets, cosmetics products and even wonderful golf clubs and stylish carry bags.
Then the gala program started with Board of Directors of KCS, Mr. Jacob Ham gave a welcome speech and Linda Lee, Executive Director of KCS, introduced First Lady of New York City, Mrs. Chirlane McCray. Then John H. Kim (M.D., Gastroenterologist) and Jo-Ann Yoo (Executive Director of the Asian American Federation) were given the appreciation awards.
All the attendees were treated delicious dinner, wonderful traditional dance performance and even got to take home with KCS fun selfie sticks. It was a fabulous night with wonderful supporters of KCS. Congratulations to KCS for all the great work you have done for our communities!
