Korean American Community Foundation 2018 Gala

On November 8, the Korean American Community Foundation hosted its Annual Gala at Cipriani Wall St. The Gala celebrates the work of KACF, its grantee partners, and the accomplishments of the Korean American community. This year, it honored Miky Lee, the Vice Chairwoman of CJ Group, for visionary force in promoting Korean culture and commitment to women leadership, as well as recognized the Trailblazer Awardee Chloe Kim, 2018 Olympic Gold Medalist, for her achievements on and off the slopes.

Juju Chang, the Emmy-Award-winning co-anchor of ABS News “Nightline” and Eric Nam, Korean American singer songwriter, emceed the event. Eric also performed two of his hit songs, wowing the audience.

“It was incredibly awe-inspiring to see more than 800 Korean Americans and friends come together for KACF and our work to lift up the community. We were also humbled by the generosity in the room that helped us to surpass our fundraising goal and raise a record amount of $1.9 million”, says KACF President Kyung B. Yoon. “The funds raised will be used to continue our work to help low-income families through programs including grants, capacity building, and public education.”

Fundraising highlights included a chance to spend the day snowboarding with Chloe Kim at her training ground–Mammoth Mountain in California—which thrilled the crowd and sold for $85,000.

“We are grateful for the leadership of our Gala Co-Chairs: Michael Chung, Deputy Global Head of Equities of Millennium Management; Simon Kim, the Proprietor of Cote; and Jennifer Park of Pawson Capital Management”, said KACF Board Chair, Dr. Steven Yang. “And we could not have this signature fundraising event that grows bigger each year, without the dedicated efforts of our board and staff.”
