Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival Rings the NYSE Opening Bell

By Joy Chiang Ling

The Hong Kong dragons invaded the New York Stock Exchange on Wednesday Aug. 6th morning in anticipation of the 24th Annual Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival.

Henry Wong, the chairman of the festival, joined the director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York, Steve Barclay, at the New York Stock Exchange to ring the opening bell. They were accompanied by a colorful Chinese dancer, several members of a participating rowing team and a dragon head and tail for a photo-opportunity at Wall Street’s famous trading floor.

The Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival promises to be a fun-filled event that will provide food, cultural performances, arts and crafts demonstrations and a variety of other community-based activities in addition to the internationally recognized dragon boat racing competition. It is due to start on Saturday, August 9th and end Sunday, August 10th, from 9 AM to 5 PM, rain or shine. It will take place at Meadow Lake, Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, New York. Admission is free.
