Countdown to 2014 with Taiwan Tourism Bureau at Times Square

A advertising commercial produced by Taiwan Tourism Bureau was broadcast in New York’s Times Square on New Year’s Eve countdown as around 1 million people swarmed into the world-renowned intersection to observe the famous ball drop to welcome the New Year of 2014. It was the fourth time Taiwan’s Tourism Bureau had sponsored the commercial in the year-end celebration in Times Square.

Taiwan ads was broadcast six times at the final hour till countdown and appeared on the big screen in the New Year’s Eve countdown at the last 10 minutes to the year of 2014.

Mr. Alex Fan, Deputy director of of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York, said Taiwan has its own distinctive culture, arts and festivals, the natural beauty and ecological diversity of landscape and fine cuisine, so Taiwan has great tourist attraction. Besides, Taiwan is one of the six countries to operate the high-speed railway that makes traveling in Taiwan very convenient.

“Manhattan is a world-famous tourist destination, attracting over 50 million worldwide visitors each year, especially the Times Square, a major commercial intersection in Midtown Manhattan,” said Thomas Chang, director of the Taiwan Tourism Bureau New York. “It’s important that we target this audience by having continuous advertising messages in front of them”.

Taiwan’s tourism reached a new milestone by welcoming 8 million international visitors in 2013, showing that the government’s longstanding efforts to brand Taiwan tourism has borne fruit. Along with the 8 million visitors, international tourism revenue also broke NT$370 billion (US$12.33 billion) last year.
