The Coalition for Asian American Children and Families (CACF) celebrated its 2012 Caring for Children Awards Gala on Tuesday, November 27, at Tribeca 360° in New York City. Over 350 guests are attending the gala, raising $200,000 in support of the organization’s policy advocacy initiatives and making the gala its largest netting event of the year.At the gala, three visionary leaders were honored for their dedication to improving the lives of Asian Pacific American children and families.
This year’s award recipients are:
- Deep Ghosh, Director of Youth Development, The Child Center of New York
- Sarah BJ Sung, Chair, Korean American Family Service Center; Public Affairs Manager, Con Edison
- Lily Din Woo, Principal, PS 130 Manhattan Hernando de Soto
Wayne Ho, CACF Executive Director, states “We are excited to recognize Deep among this year’s group of visionary honorees. Deep, BJ, and Lily have all dedicated their lives to supporting children and families and to promoting academic success and healthy development. We are proud to recognize their achievements at this year’s Caring for Children Awards Gala. Their important work empowers our communities to become active agents of positive change.”
Deep Ghosh shared, “I’m honored to receive a Caring for Children Award from CACF. As a children’s advocate, I’ve seen firsthand CACF’s dedication to meeting the needs of our undeserved youth by giving them the tools to succeed and a voice that continues to be heard.”
“I’m humbled to receive this award. CACF has shown the community support on many levels and built bridges between multiple organizations and communities through its pan-Asian scope,” says Sarah BJ Sung.
Lily Din Woo says, “As the principal of PS 130, I know the challenges of bringing together students and parents from different communities, separated by experience, language, and culture. CACF has proved multiple times that it can be done. I’m honored to be receiving a Caring for Children Award.”
Edward Pauly, CACF Acting Board President kicked off the event with a warm welcome. Cindy Hsu, an Emmy Award winning anchor and reporter for WCBS-TV, and Vivian Lee, anchor and reporter for NY1 emceed the event.
