On June 8th 2013, AsianInNY and friends decided to conquer one of the challenging races in the United States, the Spartan Race. Previous of the Spartan Race, AsianInNY team has conquered the Warrior Dash and the Men’s Health Urbanathlon. We have practiced and trained hard to achieve our maximum potential and became a fit group to participate in sports events.
When people hear the word “Sparta”, they might associate it with the 300 movie directed by Zack Snyder. However, combined with the word “race”, a difficult and challenging race arise. The Spartan Race is the world’s leading obstacle race series. It’s an event of pure primitive craziness. There are four types of difficulties offered: The Spartan Sprint (3+ miles of obstacle racing), the Super Spartan (8+ miles), the Spartan Beast (12+ miles), and the Ultra Beast (26+ miles with obstacles). The race tests one’s mental and endurance level. With determination and perseverance, they can succeed and overcome the race. The obstacles are military training based and if “the courses do not kill you outright, the clock will.” After all, it is a race.
The Spartan Race 2013 in New York was located at Tuxedo Ridge Ski Center 481 Route 17A Tuxedo, NY. The race started at 9AM in the morning. Aid stations are provided along the course for participants to keep hydrated and to treat any injuries.
For this race, people have the option to form their own team. AsianInNY formed their own race team and included those who wanted to participate in the event too.
At the end of the race, the participants received a finisher’s medal along with a free beer ticket for anyone 21 and above. It was a great moment because we met new people, made new friends, reached the finish line, and conquered the Spartan Race. We look forward to meeting new people in the future events and be victorious.
