2012 ETTV Top Idol wrapped up its audition phase in New York’s Flushing Mall on June 30 and it was a completely success even with a 100 degree weather, the entire audition center was packed with amazing talents. This audition, partnered up with us, AsianInNY, attracted a large audience and also paved way for Top Idol’s New York region contestants to advance to Preliminary Round. They are Vivian Loo, Ming-Chun Yin, Yu Chou Lee and Bowen Xie, and the 4 runner-ups are Xiaochen Yang, Wendy Kong, Erin Lien and Naomi Liu.
The audition judges included Daniel Liang, ex-executive producer of Top Idol and May Chiang, ETTV America EVP and World Journal’s Director of Internet Department, Nancy Kao. Looking back at the auditions in all regions, judges were pleased to express that New York applicants had an overall stellar performance. Almost everyone asserted with confidence and skills. Judges were especially fond of Vivian Loo’s strong vocal as well as her ability to sing Mandarin and English with ease. Ming-Chun Yin’s wide vocal range also impressed the judges. Yu Chou Lee daringly showed off his masculinity with strong stage performance and presence.

Judge Daniel comments that due to the strong lineup of applicants, this audition was even more stringent in selecting the final 4 contestants to advance to Preliminary Round. New York applicants were generally very well prepared. Daniel also expressed that in order to be a well-rounded Artist, one must not only have a great voice, but also have the tenacity to show off their unique characteristics. He was also impressed with the efforts each applicant put into their overall ensemble.
The 4 contestants will now gear up for their upcoming Preliminary Round which will be held in Los Angeles. Stay tuned for Top Idol’s season premier on July 15, where all 24 contestants from Los Angeles will compete in 4 elimination rounds. The rigorous and competitive rounds will swipe out 6 contestants, leaving 18 to advance to the Preliminary Round.
2012 Top Idol’s winners will take home thousands in cash and prizes and First Place will be awarded with a brand new 2012 Mini Cooper Hardtop, provided by ETTV America and AutoWorld Magazine. ETTV Top Idol’s winner will have the opportunity to sing alongside Taiwanese Rock Star Wu-Bai & China Blue followed by his 20th Anniversary Concert Tour!
