The 4th New York Chinese Film Festival held a press conference on Saturday Nov 2nd at Golden Unicorn Restaurant (18 E Broadway, 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10002.) Film festival artistic director Mr. Xinjia Wang, Executive Producer Bo Lin, and Chinese American Arts Council Executive Director Alan Chow all attended the press conference to bring the programs and details of the 4th Annual New York Chinese Film Festival.
“The 4th New York Chinese Film Festival” in New York City presented by Chinese American Arts Council and CCTV-6 Movie Channel from November 5-7, 2013. As of 2010 Chinese cinema is the third largest film industry by number of feature films produced annually. This is a great time to introduce Chinese Cinema culture to the audience of greater New York. China’s film industry produced over 800 films in 2012, box-office receipts grew 33.3 percent in 2011 and by the first quarter of 2012, it has surpassed Japan in box-office receipts by becoming the second-largest in the world. Furthermore, since the late 1980s and progressively in the 2000s, Chinese films have enjoyed considerable box office success abroad. As you may already know, that Chinese American Arts Council was established in 1975 to meet the cultural needs of the expanding New York Chinese community and to introduce the best of the rich Chinese cultural heritage to the greater New York community. Today it is the largest Chinese American arts presenting and services organization in the Eastern US. It presents many events annually at Lincoln Center, Chinatown and other locations in NY City and is recognized by NY’s city and state agencies as the arts liaison to the Chinese American community.
The NYCFF Opening Night film, Vicky Zhao Wei’s box-office smash So Young will be presented on Tuesday, November 5th at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall. The remaining films will be presented on Wednesday, November 6th and on Thursday, November 7th at the AMC Empire 25 on 42nd Street and will be followed by Q&As with talent in attendance. The Closing Night Awards Gala will be held on November 7th, at one of New York’s most fashionable venues, Capitale. The 2013 NYCFF will screen 7 new films from Hong Kong & Mainland China over the 3-day event, and will introduce such celebrated filmmakers and performers as Vicky Zhao Wei, Miriam Yeung, Xiubo Wu, Wesley Wong, Larry Yang and Donnie Yen to New York audiences.
