2013 Taiwan Day at the Met’s Citi Field Press Conference

“Take me out to the ball game; take me out with the crowd. Pass me some free Sri Lankan Tea…” That’s correct. You read it right. Instead of peanuts and crackerjacks, ticket holders of NY Mets Citi Field on Saturday, August 3rd will be receiving a cup of free Sri Lankan Black Tea when visiting Shiny Tea in Flushing. If Sri Lankan Black Tea doesn’t appeal to you, how about a free serving of shaved ice with your dinner at 101 Taiwanese Cuisine after the game. Also, you can receive an exclusive drawstring bag featuring Mr. Met with each ticket purchase. Why? To celebrate Taiwan Day!

A press conference was held on July 26th to introduce 2013 Taiwan Day on Aug 3rd at NY Mets Citi Field with VIP guest Wei Te-Sheng at the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in New York. Wei Te-Sheng is the director of the Taiwanese blockbuster movies, “Cape No. 7” and “Seediq Bale” and producer of the upcoming movie KANO.

Ambassador Andrew Kao welcomed speech

The conference began with a message from Ambassador Andrew Kao. He is excited for this upcoming event and cannot wait to see its success. This Taiwan Day event is going to feature performances from techno Third Prince by Taiwanese American Association of New York (TAA-NY) and diabolo tricks by FACSA.

Next, Director of Taiwan Tourism Bureau Thomas Chang gave his greetings. He hopes that this year’s event on August 3rd will be a big success. He hopes the audience will enjoy their time and appreciate the Taiwanese culture. Huang Kairong from Hakka Association foresaw success in the organization and encouraged the staff and media to continue to work hard. The final words were from Executive Director Borcheng Hsu of Passport to Taiwan. He thanked the food/drink sponsors, Shiny Tea and 101 Taiwanese Cuisine in New York, for supporting them at this event. Since Citi Field a subway stop away from Flushing, the audience can walk to Flushing for their bite of Taiwan.

For the finale, Wei Te-Sheng particularly recorded a video to invite everyone to live together and to feel the charm of baseball and movies! He will be at the NY Met’s Citi Field on August 3rd for a “Meet & Greet” session at noon. To conclude the event, a photo-op and refreshments were served – Bubble Milk Tea and Sticky Rice wrapped in bamboo leaves.

Come and enjoy a day of culture. If you are already a frequent Citi Field goer, experience the stadium in a whole new way. Enjoy watching an American sport while your taste buds take a trip to Taiwan. 2013 Taiwan day @ the NY Met’s Citi Field is a day you don’t want to miss.

Guess who showed up as well? MR. MET!
