Follow us on Twitter: Asians also Love to Twetet

By Keen Hung Lee

Twitter is a social, information networking device used to make status updates about news, companies, people, events, etc. Using Twitter can be a quick way to scan and filter topics that you find most interested in and read about. Find your interests, follow them and keep yourself updated on one page. Tweeting, just as fast as one pronounces it, is as fast as one must be updated on Twitter. Tweeting is like a conversation between two people or a whole group of people so it is important to stay on track by checking Twitter as often as one checks their phone or Facebook.

Twitter is an online social networking service and microblogging service that enables its users to send and read text-based messages of up to 140 characters, known as “tweets”. The service rapidly gained worldwide popularity, with over 500 million active users as of 2012, generating over 340 million tweets daily and handling over 1.6 billion search queries per day.

1) Reply to tweets.

2) Use other people’s tweets as reference when you are not sure what to tweet about. Branching off other tweets will eventually guide you in knowing what interests your tweets lie in. Mention names of people or celebrities so that other tweeters will reply to your tweet.

3) Use features such as lists, direct messages, and favorites to enhance the potential of more people following you. Include pictures and videos in tweets, and connect your Tweeter account to other social networks such as LinkedIn, blog and Facebook. Learn to sell your Tweeter; if you engage your “customers”, they will return and continue to follow your Tweets. You must learn to “sell” them something meaningful to make it worth following.

Make Tweeting convenient to use by installing the application on your smartphone, that way, it’s just as simple and convenient as text messaging. Unlike Facebook, where unwanted newsfeed may pop up, Twitter is a communication tool used to connect to a world you choose to partake in.

Tweeter is not only for “fun” but it is also serious business, where you can find a job, and connect with executives from huge companies, etc. Twitter is where you build your reputation, in a quick and credible way. Create the “perfect” profile for yourself. It is like marketing and branding yourself in a matter of minutes and you don’t have to pay someone to do it for you. A way to market yourself on Twitter is to pick one topic that you feel passionate about so that you will establish a reputation known for it and people will recognize you for what you’re best at. It is building a profile seen from a different perspective.

Twitter is a community of colleagues who look out and help each other. When you create a group of individuals who share the same interests as you, they can share their knowledge with you and lead you to other connections you would have never imagined.
